PRAYER – THE CRY OF THE HEART

PRAYER IS WHERE OUR BATTLES are fought and won, often in secret.

Prayer is what happens in the private place, in the moments when no one sees or hears but Christ. These are the moments we connect with our Saviour and Father on a spiritual plain, where we experience His Holy Spirit speaking for us when we have no words. It is in prayer that our hearts and spirits are in communion with Christ in a way that transcends any earthly communication known to man.

Prayer is the silent tear, the silent groaning of our inner most being (1 Sam. 1:13) and the mental, spiritual, and physical expression of our dependence on Him. Prayer is, in Hannah’s words, when we pour our souls out before the Lord (1 Samuel 1:15b). It is the thing that will keep you functioning in the darkest of moments and make you sing in the midst of the battle. In prayer we will find calm for our raging emotions, and in prayer we will find clarity of mind.

Prayer is where we will fight these spiritual battles when our enemy would try to steal our reason and distance our hearts from our Saviour. In prayer Jesus will draw us close. We will know His presence, and He will speak to us with tender, comforting words. Prayer is what will lead us into worship and will focus our minds on Him. Throughout your infertility journey, you will need to pray for protection over your heart, mind, body, and marriage. You will be asking God to pour His strength into you (Eph. 3:14–16; Phil. 4:13) and give you discernment in all the difficult decisions you will be asked to make. It is likely that if it is not already the case, prayer will become a huge part of your life.

I cannot begin to tell you the place and importance of communion with the Lord in my life now. However, I did not always seek God this way. It was partially through our infertility journey that He began to cultivate in me a dependence on prayer that would grow into one of the greatest treasures of my life and feel as vital as the air I breathe.

Let’s look at some of the precious lessons Stephan and I learned about prayer in this season that hopefully will help you too.

THE FANTASY OF PRAYER

How long have you been praying? Indeed, have you even been praying at all? Perhaps you and your spouse have been praying like crazy, maybe even fasting, and yet it just seems like no one is listening. Not only is there no sign of things getting better, but they appear to be getting worse.
